About the film
Join us for this Christmas classic on the big screen
Two talented song-and-dance men team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter, they join forces with a sister act and trek to Vermount for a white Christmas. The real adventure starts when they discover that the inn is run by their old army general who's now in financial trouble, and the result is the stuff dreams are made of.
Directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen, and Rosemary Clooney. Filmed in Technicolor, it features the songs of Irving Berlin, including the title song, "White Christmas", which was originally introduced in Holiday Inn.
Produced and distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film is notable for being the first to be released in VistaVision, a wide-screen process developed by Paramount that entailed using twice the surface area of standard 35mm film. This large-area negative was used to yield finer-grained standard-sized 35mm film prints. It was preserved in 2025 by the National Film Registry
Made on a budget of $2 million, White Christmas was the highest grossing film of 1954 in the U.S., bringing in around $12 million by the end of its theatrical run (adjusted for inflation, that would be close to $137 million today).
