About the film

Rose of Nevada is a Cornwall set drama directed by Mark Jenkin, director of ‘Bait’ and ‘Enys Men. It follows a fishing village that becomes unsettled when a long-lost trawler returns after years at sea, drawing its crew into a strange and shifting sense of time, memory, and identity rooted in the Cornish landscape.

When a fishing boat lost with all hands 30 years ago mysteriously reappears in the harbour of a forgotten Cornish village, it feels to some like a sign of change. In a place shaped by economic decline, hope gathers around the vessel’s return: perhaps one more voyage can bring fortune back to its shores. Young father Nick (George MacKay) and the enigmatic newcomer Liam (Callum Turner) join Captain Murgey (Francis Magee) as the crew sets out to sea. But when they return, something is profoundly wrong. They have slipped out of time itself, and the village now greets them as the boat’s original crew.

Shot on grainy 16mm, Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin returns to the sea and the uncanny with a haunting folktale of fishermen caught in a mind-bending time loop. This earthy, psychological portrait of a working-class community’s cyclical existence is an atmospheric plunge into the eerie.
