About the film
Song Sung Blue (2025) is a musical biographical drama directed by Craig Brewer, based on a true story (and 2008 documentary) of Mike and Claire Sardina, a Milwaukee couple who found love and success as "Lightning & Thunder," a Neil Diamond tribute act. Starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, the film follows their journey through financial hardship, addiction recovery, and severe health crises to perform their own brand of earnest Neil Diamond covers
The film focuses on the late 1980s through the 1990s as Mike (Jackman), a recovering alcoholic and Vietnam veteran working as a Buddy Holly impersonator, meets Claire (Hudson). They fall in love, marry, and form a musical duo called Lightning & Thunder. Their act becomes a popular regional "Neil Diamond Experience," which brings them joy and fulfilment later in life.
Hudson's performance garnered particular praise, and earned her nominations for the Golden Globe Award, Actor Award, BAFTA Award, and the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians, proving it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams.
